The World of Work
We are dedicated to the success of all our LDHS students. For those students that choose to directly enter the workforce after graduation this page is dedicated to helping you make the most of those opportunities!
All LDHS students earn a National Career Readiness Certificate during their senior year. The NCRC is a national credential verifying to employers, anywhere in the United States, that an individual has essential core employability skills in Applied Mathematics, Locating Information and Reading for Information. This easily understood and nationally valued credential certifies attainment of these employability skills at a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum level of achievement.
Students must successfully complete assessments that measure cognitive abilities, examining some of the "real world" foundation skills critical to job success to earn their achievement level. ACT (the college testing company) has researched more than 16,000 occupations, concluding that these three skills are very important for almost any occupation--skilled or professional--at any level of education.
For further information on the NCRC you can go to the SD Department of Labor website.
THE JOB SEARCH:
There are many ways to find jobs. You may know someone who can help you out, or check out the local papers. There are many jobs posted on various websites and through the SD Dept. of Labor. Your part-time job in high school may turn into a full-time job once you graduate.
The SD Department of Labor has an online database of job openings called SDWorks. To make the most of SDWorks you need to create a free account. They also have resources for building a resume, interview skills, and many other job seeking skills.
