Service Learning Requirement
LDHS requires students to complete 45 hours of service learning/volunteering to graduate. Service learning is experience which requires students to take an active part in their communities providing valuable hands-on experience in the civic responsibilities in the Lead and Deadwood area. Service learning experiences may be gained through a career and technical student organization, integrated into classroom curriculum, independent project, senior experience, or school/communitywide partnership.
Service-learning is coordinated through Teacher’s As Advisors. The student completes an hours log verified through signature by the cooperating agency. Students keep a running log for up to 4 years through their SDMyLife Portfolio. These are are then verified by their advisor during TAA. Below are useful documents.

Personal Learning Plans
The state of South Dakota requires each student have an updated personal learning plan or PLP as they progress through high school. Students begin hearing about personal learning plans or PLPs by their eight grade year when they need to start making decisions about registering for high school classes that will help them with their future career and education goals. PLPs are created in SDMyLife and saved there for students to update each year.
